I have hesitated to share this several times now. I came to this place just outside Kigali, Rwanda not intending to find such a structure. I did not ask about the specific story of this place. But it’s not hard to connect the dots. Very few places in Rwanda escaped the effects of the 1994 genocide.

I composed this shot from a pattern of holes on the wall of a church just outside of Madisi, Malawi. HDR (high dynamic range) techniques helped to bring out the detailed patterns on the wall. I also preferred black and white because the colors (there weren’t many) were a distraction.

Well, I won’t normally post family photos here, but my daughter Claire turns 12 today! Happy birthday Claire!

Kids at Mchira

By now you may have noticed that many of my photos are of children. This was not by design or intent, but it turns out that many of my favorite photos are of children. In places like Malawi kids have less of a tendency to flash an “Olan Mills” face — which makes for a much more interesting and emotional shot. These three are a great example of this.
